Impressions on Nandi Hillathon

By Reena Pillai

Nandi Hillathon has definitely left a lasting impression in the hearts and minds of the people. Many were more than happy to express and share their thoughts and emotions. Given below are short and surreal experiences narrated by participants.

Champion of 21 K Marathon (Women's category), Divya Vasishta quality director at an MNC

"I've been running for three years now. I participate 12 to 15 such events in a year. Recently, I had switched to hill running. And Nandi hills is a big attraction when people are looking to train on the hills.  That is one reason I registered for this marathon. Being the first edition, it well organised and the overall experience was very good. The entire ambiance was relaxed and fun and I did not experience any stress. I felt great winning the Champion trophy. In my age category this is my 20th win and in the open category my third win".

Champion of 21K Marathon (men’s category) Rahul B who works for the Railways

"Needless to say, I'm ecstatic with the win. I've been running marathons for the past 8 years all over India. And this was definitely one of the best organised marathons. The arrangements were excellent; they were hydration points at regular intervals along with energy drinks and fruits. The sight of police personnel at various points was very comforting and thankfully we didn’t have to worry about the traffic. The best past was running along the scenic route and it was literally breathtaking! This is definitely one of the most memorable runs in my life".

"Around 15 transgender participated in the Nandi Heritage Walk. We enjoyed the Walkathon tremendously. This is the first time we are invited to be part of a public event of this scale. It was a wonderful feeling and we enjoyed a good rapport with everyone. It isn’t an understatement if I say that this was the best experience in our lives. I think if we continue to participate in such events we can learn many more things".

Prashanth Prakash, Chairman United Way Bengaluru

"Nandi Hillathon was organized to bring back the focus to one of the last treasures of Bengaluru that we have i.e Nandi Hills. We wanted to protect this large and last treasure and do it in an eco-friendly way. We want to show the way when it comes to Nandi Hills. So we are calling this 5 kilometer radius the Nandi Heritage Valley. We will protect this differently".

Nandi Hillathon – The saga continous

By Reena Pillai

The first edition of Nandi Hillathon was successfully organized by United Way Bengaluru on 12th June 2016 and it culminated with the launch of United Way Bengaluru’s new initiative “Nandi Campaign”, an endeavor which aims to restore the glory and beauty of Nandi Hills.

Participants lined up to run for the 21K Nandi marathon

Eighteen winners from three category races walked away with cash reward, medals, trophies, certificates and loads of treasured memories.

Organized in Discovery Village located at the foot of the majestic Nandi Hills, the marathon turned out to be a lifetime experience for one and all. While traditional dolkuneeta artists danced and played their drums rendering a festive look and feel to the event (Below left pic), the other highlight was definitely the drone camera (below right pic) which beautifully captured the races and added an edgy and futuristic dimension to this unique event.
